The Daughter of White--Haku

“I’m sorry for being alive.” Before I knew it, it became a speaking habit.
I’ve only been quietly complaining. A meaningless life.

Everyone in the village had beautiful green hair.
I’m left out because of my different white hair.

Deep in the forest stands a thousand year old tree.
I’m here alone, praying alone.

Always living in solitude is very lonely.
I just want somebody, anyone, to be my friend.

It was there, I met her near the thousand year old tree.
It [all] began when I helped her after she fell down.

Before I knew it, the two of us were happily close,
But everything about me and her were different.

She had the most beautiful green hair compared to everyone in the village.
With her gentle voice and smiling face, she was loved by everyone.

Why are you being so kind to me?
Do you pity a woman who is inferior to you?

She embraced pitiable me and whispered,
“You are more wonderful than anyone else.” My tears overflowed.

Even if everyone in the world despised and laughed at me,
If there was someone who needed me, I would be happy.

The two of us left the village and began living in a town.
Even if it was unfamiliar, it was fine because we were together.

We became employees of a wealthy merchant woman.
We chose that job in order to live.

One day, in the residence, I saw a slender man with blue hair.
His and her meeting [each other] changed everything.

The king from the country across the sea deeply loved her.
He refused the proposal of the princess in the next country.

The country was wrapped in war when the princess gave the order:
