Condemned

The Lakewood Home for Children has existed for over a century, yet nobody outside of the Facility knows what goes on inside the stone walls. Even the police are prohibited from entering, for reasons like, “it’ll frighten the children” or “that could give them a chance to escape!” No outsider is let in, no one is let out.
This is the place where children are sent when their guardians cannot bear to care for them anymore- whether due to their death, inability to care for them, their disinterest or because the child is too rebellious for them to handle.
The children there are called Defects. Before entering the home, their previous memories are erased. They are forced to follow the rules of the system, a way of life that the Facility has created to restrict them. Theyre told by the Facility growing up that they’re unwanted, useless. They grow up in dorms, isolated from anyone else. After entering, the only day the Defects ever see the outside world is on their 18th birthday, when they are released from care and their memories erased, once again. Essentially, they never get a childhood.
Half the kids there shouldn’t be. Like Palmer Emerson. Her father abandoned her after her mother died.
When a Defect rebels, they are named a Discord. While living inside of the walls of the Home, Palmer was the least likely to become a Discord. However, this all changes when she meets Zero. Zero is already labeled as the #1 Discord by the Facility. He plans to escape, and for some reason, he believes Palmer to be the only one who can help him.
