Even at the early stages of her life, you would never see her without a camera about her somewhere. She was always capturing moments as if they would suddenly disappear, slipping just beyond her grasp and taking with them a precious piece of her memory along with them. Now at the age of seventeen, even with the privileges of being the school paper editor, part of the welcoming committee and a photography blogger, she felt her life in the middle-of-nowhere town was starting get a little too mundane. She felt as though she had seen all there was to see – as though she had captured it all. Then entered the new handsome guy at school, with his the brooding eyes and cool aura. He was withdrawn, made no attempts to befriend anyone and spent a longer-than-normal amount of time behind the muted screen of his mobile phone. He was an intriguing, enigmatic – even unsettling, at times – individual and interested her a little more than he should have. When Aurelia was assigned to be his friend, although shook up and nervous at first, she soon eased into the idea. My back hit the railing as he stood less than a foot away from me. His lips parted, releasing a puff of smoke into my face. The smell made me feel sick, but I didn't show it. "Mon cœur, no one is watching over us. It's just a fragment of your little imagination," he said bitterly, a cold look passing over his face. He dropped his cigarette, snuffing it out with his shoe. "No," I breathed, shaking my head, "the stars will always watch over us." - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - *SLOWBURN* Isla Fischer, an 18 year old fresh out of high school and ready for life's adventures.
