Frank admires all the little things about Gerard,  his boss. He admires that he smiles at him in meetings, he admires that he brings doughnuts to work and already knows Frank's favorite.  He admires the 'you can do it' talks and the way he pats his shoulder. Frank was falling in love with his boss and his boss was leaving with his 'partner'.
