Twins, Jackson and Tyler, are sent to go to the Summer Solstice festival. However, in the letter they received, they got specific instructions in order to get to the festival. Each step they take leads to a challenge or lesson in life, which if they pass then they must give away a "button" to symbolize they passed it. 
Each button has a different meaning depending on who it belongs to, but they must remember the button will tell them what happens to them in the end.

As a result each twin got only half of the traits they were originally supposed to get. Skylar got the strength and speed while Jake got the brains. When they realized what had happened, the twins' parents immediately put them up for adoption, so neither one knew of the other. 12 years later Skylar is constantly failing all her classes, and Jake is getting bullied because he is so much weaker than other kids. But then Skylar's adoptive family decides to move across the country to find a new school for their daughter, which happens to be the school Jake goes to. They meet completely by accident. In the meantime, their parents have found a way to fix their mistake from 12 years ago -- they can make one of the twins perfect. But it requires for the other twin to give their life.
