My birth necklace is a crescent moon. When you are born you are given a unique necklace, not just any necklace. A soulmate necklace sadly it's only half of it. They increase in heat and flash a certain color when your other half is near. Many people believe this item is a great thing, I believe it's a curse. There are stories about people marrying other people who aren't their soulmate and the relationship worked out. There's also one about a woman soulmate being her best friend and the necklace never reacted until 19 years after they met. I hope that won't happen to me. So the necklaces have a mind of its own. Once I tried to get rid of mines so I threw it into a river, the next day it was back around my neck. I have one of the most complicated shapes. Think about it, I have a crescent moon..... A CRESCENT MOON, what's my other half. A star? The sun? A planet? A comet? The rest of the moon? In this society, everyone has a soulmate. And the way to find yours is just look. Along with a soulmate, everyone has a small tattoo on their cheek with a symbol. Some could be a star, a flower, a yinyang, a fish, or even waves. There are so many people that the symbols are almost limitless. The tattoos don't care about gender or number. There could be gay matches, and there could even be polyamorous matches. The tattoos will tingle when you are near to your sm. And they will glow if you have found only one of your sm's if your match was poly. The trick is, you don't get the tattoo until you are 16. And even if you are near your match, as long as one of you are not of age, your tattoo will not tingle. Also, they are normal tattoos (except you don't get it or choose it, it just appears) so you can get rid of it. But if you do, your sm won't die but they will get very sick. The main characters of this story, Violet West (18) and Harper Black (20), both have a flame tattoo on their cheek. They live in the same state but for 4 years Harper paniced because she couldn't find her match. She wasn't sure if it was because her sm wasn't of age yet or if her sm lived far away. For 2 years Violet also paniced but she knew that some people don't find their sm for 5-10 years after they come of age, so she wasn't as scared as Harper. The other half of your necklace or bracelet is being worn by your soulmate, the one you are destined to fall in love with. Starting at the age of 16, you begin your journey to find your soulmate. Your necklace will be colder the farther away you are from your soulmate and then hotter the closer you are to your soulmate. Finding your soulmate can either be hard, or quite easy, depending on your location. Mainly your soulmate should be located near you, but for the unfortunate ones, very far away. You would think this would spare me the pain and heartbreak of being played with. Wrong. You see my soulmate, Brian, is the love of every girls life and I just so happen to be matched with him. The problem? I never really planned who I fell in love with. I didn't plan on not wanting to be soul mates with Brian, it's just that Alex entered my life and it just happened, and when it did, I fell hard and fast. Soulmates, we're always told we have one but I haven't been so sure I do. I mean I did get my tattoo and it hasn't disappeared yet, meaning they aren't dead. I guess believing in something like that takes a lot of effort. When you first touch your soulmate (Skin to skin contact) your tattoo turns a solid color. That color is the most important color in your life at the moment you touched. In this world, there's a system to tell who your soulmate is. Nobody remembers how it happened but, one day people started getting these tattoos on their right wrist. These tattoos are a basic shape that resembles your soulmate's hair. The shape is filled in completely by the color of your soulmate's hair as well. In the center of the tattoo, there are 1-5 objects. Those objects describe what your soulmate loves to do. The shape of my tattoo always fascinated me but I've never been able to put it into words. My tattoo shape is an upside-down half-circle if instead of the bottom part being flat, it opens and curves outwards. In the center of my tattoo was a volleyball, it always was a volleyball, it's never changed once. You see naturally, people tend to change hobbies, but whoever my soulmate was, they didn't change theirs, I never changed mine either which is fascinating. The color of my tattoo is a chocolaty brown. (This story is in Y/n's POV....mainly)
