Before anyone is born they get the option to become immortal and indestructible but they have to give up the purpose in their life and they don't know what it is. If you turn down that option you keep your purpose and die eventually.
Sean didn't turn down that choice and gave up his purpose in life. But over time his friends died beside him as he never grew old. Sean had done so many things but because he never realized how important his purpose was, everything began to fall apart.
