Chapter 21 Peek: "Fuck." I handed the phone back, my voice dropping to a heavy growl, my own throat tight with the shared pain. "Have you figured out protection yet?" My eyes shot to Miles, feeling his intense gaze boring into me like a plea, tears now streaming down his face.
"Yeah, we're all set. But we're definitely not going to any parties without enough backup because I WON'T FUCKING LOSE HER." He stepped forward, tears glistening in his eyes, gripping my sweatshirt in a desperate fist, his breath ragged, voice breaking on the words like he was one wrong move from falling apart.
"I know-okay, I fucking know! Chill the FUCK out," I barked, tossing him off me with a shove that was more grounding than angry, though my own heart hammered with the same terror, eyes burning with unshed tears for what we'd all lost. "You're gonna freak the girls out more-get your shit together. ALL OF YOU."
