Mortal. The first five chapters.
This is the first five chapters of my first novel in "Mortal Trilogy" aptly named : "Mortal." What am I? I mean I know what a vampire is. A vampire drinks blood. But a vampire is immortal. I certainly am not immortal. Am I just a killer? Am I a serial murderer? That can't be. I crave the blood. And sometimes I even need the blood. So what does this make me? I didn't ask for the craving, but it is there. I didn't ask to be this mortal who needs blood like a vampire in a storybook. Maybe this is what a vampire really is, someone like me. Helen's parents demand that she marry the man they've chosen for her or be disowned. She chooses to be disowned. But that isn't good enough for them. They make sure that she either doesn't get jobs or they make sure that she gets fired from them. She loses her apartment and all her things do to them. They are sure that she'll give in and marry the man they've chosen rather than live on the streets. But then again, they've never really paid much attention to their daughter unless they wanted something from her. Helen would rather live on the streets and eat out of garbage dumpsters then return to her parents and marry the man that would make her life a living hell. At least on the streets she's free. She might starve or freeze to death but she'll be free. Then one day three men come after her, intent on forcing her and beating her for what little she has. Before one of them does more than grab her arm the three are gone. Helen looks down and finds them on the ground with their hearts torn out of the bodies.
