We called ourselves the Pedantries. Holders of knowledge of the past, capable of teaching history to any willing to learn. Our group name seemed the most appropriate choice at that moment. Now we have all been marked and time is rapidly running out.

This was a short story I wrote for a contest. It has the potential to become several short stories and I dearly wanted to share with you this part.

Feared and praised
It is the year 2134. America has healed from another Civil war. But America has lost. Now America is a country called Pem. In Pem, they speak Pemian. A language that is kind of like English except a tiny bit different. In Pem, it is kind of like America. Except for one big rule that is very scary for anyone. The rule is called "Eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth." The rule allows anyone that saves a life to take a life. So, if you save someone then you can legally murder someone. So, doctors are the most feared and praised people in the world. Feared cause they save lives every day and then praised for the same reason. Jed Limestone is a normal everyday kid. Except this doctor named Doctor Brown has been saving his kills for years. He has now just retired at the age of 75 and some people say he is planning on killing many people. But Jed does not believe that. Until he is walking through a hospital and looks through Dr. Brown's office that Dr. Brown mistakingly left open. Jed looks at a board with tons of pictures on it. On the top, it says in big red letters "TARGETS." And he looks at the pictures again. And his face is the 5th picture. No elderly body aches, your sex drive remains on 100%, and you'll forever be in the prime of your life. Well, in their quest for scientific breakthroughs, our brilliant, overachieving ancestors unknowingly rewrote the entire genetic playbook for our bloodline-long before I was even conceived. Turns out, eternal youth isn't all it's cracked up to be. In fact, it can be less of a gift, and more of a life sentence. Just after Earl's 400th birthday he discovered his 5th dimensional abilities could take him pretty far; literally. As in intergalactic travel. Over time he met other interdimensional beings. Such as Draco, a powerful 4D being who motioned for the ICU to immediately annihilate all of humanity, in order to give Earth time to rebuild its natural resources. Initially, the Intergalactic Chamber of the Universe granted Draco permission to follow through with his murderous plan. However, Earl stepped in and pleaded for humanity's relocation instead of their annihilation. You see Earl himself was earth born. Only as a teenager, did he discover his 5D abilities. He saw the progress humanity had been making. He knew they had learned from their past environmental failures. In his opinion, the people of Earth didn't have to die. The Exterminated
"Follow the story of a team, thrown together by fate, who must use their powers to stop the inevitable. The underground human organization "The Revengeance" wants revenge (obviously), and will do anything to protect earth, even if that means destroying every species in their way. The aliens are ready to destroy them all over again, if they find out the humans are no longer extinct. The fate of all sentient life hangs in the balance. Can they stop this slaughter? Or will they be killed themselves?" This is a story that I've been working on with my friend and we are both excited to finally publish, enjoy! Btw the name in the title will be who the chapter follows Also, this is the first draft, once it's finished we are probably going to go and edit some stuff or just rewrite and publish it as a whole other book

Solemn Vigil
We've been around, for a very long time. We've watched innumerable scores of creatures die, watched empires crumble, great rulers wither away , and planets themselves collapse into barren wastelands devoid of life. But we've also seen races, brought back from the brink of extinction, kingdoms saved during their final hour, planets and entire star systems blossoming with life and prosperity, all because of our actions. Yet even so, too often have we been too late to save a planet, or a species, that we sometimes feel very small, very insignificant, when we think of the grandiose ideas many have of gods and their all encompassing power over the universe. Some have even gone so far as to call us a god, despite our failures, but we know better than to believe them. We are just as mortal as any other. But they persist in their beliefs, despite what we have told them, what we have shown them to be the truth. So for the time being, perhaps we are a god, at least in their eyes.
