As a child, we think highly of our parents. Sometimes we think highly of them even when they do something wrong. Amber Stone loved her mother. She loved her family, but it was hard especially with a disabled brother. She's always taken care of her brothers from a young age until she had to go off to high school.
Life was already rough being away from home. And it got even harder when into Blade Redwood. In her mind, she had no idea who or what he was. A Vampire? No. A Demon. Maybe. But an angel was far from her mind, and that was exactly what he was.
After finding out his God given title, she finds a connection to one of the biggest wars in the world and is forced to carry on a role that had been given to her.
Amber has to become Heaven's Protector. Yet there is one problem, an arch-angel by the name of Zeyon.
After her capture, she begins to develop feelings and doesn't know whether to fight for Blade to win back Heaven or to stay with Zeyon and rule overall.
What will she decide?

Nineteen-year-old Luke Sanchez was doing well at college until demons showed up at his campus and possessed his girlfriend. Luckily he solved that problem with a special ability only he possessed: to summon fire from the palm of his hand. The gift was granted to him by the archangel Uriel, one of the seven archangels in Christianity who adopt mentally stagnated children and imbue them with special powers. However, Luke needed to know more about his heritage, so when the opportunity arrived to study at an academy for his kind up in the Rocky Mountains, he took it, leaving his friends, school, family, and the love of his life behind. He learns that mentally distracted children can only unlock the power within them at the cost of their innocence. And when he gets chosen by the school to carry out a dangerous mission to the Garden of Eden to help "save" a mentally lost child, he encounters monstrous creatures, demons, turned angels, and a betrayal that puts his new school's safety in jeopardy. *** This story is complete! In the lush, green heart of Kilkenny, the Thorne family is bound by love-and haunted by a bloodline that refuses to let them go. Gabriella Thorne is a woman of two worlds. While she inherited the steady, kind heart of her father, Lord Samuel Thorne, she carries the heavy knowledge of the "sickness" that claimed her mother, Lady Annabella Thorne. After her father's sudden passing, the stability of the estate shatters. Gabriella finds shelter with her older brother, William Thorne, who is preparing to navigate his own future as he sets out to marry his devoted fiancée, Cera Greene. Together, they form a close-knit circle of affection, eventually moving away from the haunting echoes of the manor to build a new life. But as the years pass, Gabriella takes on a burden of love that changes her forever. In a night of terror following the birth of the third child, she rescues her infant brother, Cameron, from the height of their mother's instability. To protect him from the whispers of the past, Gabriella raises him as her own, becoming a mother in every way that matters. Cameron grows up calling her "Mama," entirely unaware of the sisterly sacrifice that keeps the darkness at bay. Yet, as the family settles into their new life, a chilling truth begins to emerge. The madness that took Lady Annabella and the infamous Agatha wasn't a fluke of nature-it was an inheritance. Deep in the family tree lurks a matriarch from generations past, a woman whose shadow still stretches through the centuries. As Gabriella begins to sense the true source of the sickness in her blood, she realizes that being a devoted sister and mother won't be enough to save them. To protect Cameron and her own future, she must eventually confront a villain who has been dead for decades but whose influence is very much alive. It is a journey of secrets, sacrifice, and the ultimate test of whether love can truly break the thorns of a generational curse.

**Wattys 2016 Winner!** Fifteen-year-old Emmeline Jefferson doesn't have time away from the Demons. Not a minute to say goodbye to her family, not a moment to wonder "Why me?" Every second she's not possessed is spent begging stranger after stranger for help. But no one believes a sporadic girl who claims Demons have spent more time in her body than she has. No one until she finds Dumaine. Dumaine Chartres's whole life fits in his accordion case, his friends are nonexistent, and this fascinating girl is telling him Demons exist. These things all make perfect sense. What he doesn't understand is why humans have such outrageous issues with murder. Death is natural. If he wasn't supposed to kill anyone, they wouldn't have died. Nobody even noticed the bodies anyway. In return for a break from his internal demons, Dumaine offers Emmeline help, and she's willing to receive it from anyone. Maybe this boy can finally be the keeper she needs. Maybe chasing these Demons can explain why he's so different from everyone else. Maybe this friendship can work. With a wise but demented old man, and enough determination to perturb the Demons, Emmeline and Dumaine concoct a plan to unriddle their lives. The first step is to confront the Demon's creator. But something else seems to have found the creator first. And it only looks like an Angel. Human Spines is part one of a YA dark Urban Fantasy written in a style similar to Tahereh Mafi's Shatter Me and Elana Johnson's Possession. It's the first of a series and told from the viewpoints of Emmeline, Dumaine, and their rambling but wise navigator, Hans. Through a diverse cast, it explores themes of learned distrust, fear of the unknown, and the battle against the evil inside us all, in a way similar to a Studio Ghibli film. Cover by ecclesia-

Alyssa has forgotten her brush with Death, but David's words have stayed with her: prepare. For what? She doesn't know. For a year, she's trained and become an almost undefeated boxer, putting all of her grief for the boy she loved and lost into being the best fighter. She's fast, strong, fearless. Now strange things have started happening, and she thinks she's losing her mind. How is she supposed to fight against what she can't see? Her mother's mind is clouded with a darkness no medicine can fix, and an ancient shadow circles the town, and Alyssa knows it's somehow related to her. Gifted in ways she doesn't understand, she's thrust into a triangle of devotion and danger-an angelic protector who refuses to leave her alone, a boy whose hands have held hers through the nights, and a darkness that wants only to make her surrender. In a race that runs as fast as her fists, Alyssa must choose who to trust and how much of herself to give-because the only way to stop a thing that feeds on light may be to become what it fears most. Will she save her mother and keep her humanity, or the secrets hasn't discovered cost her everything?
