One audition has changed Jai Hunter's life. (Includes One Direction, The Collective and The Wanted! )

Her best friend, Lilly, dies after Jai's audition for X factor Australia and she was the only person she could trust.

Exerpt:

“The last thing I want to see before I die, is you get up on the Xfactor stage and audition.” Lilly says. She is lying in her hospital bed.

“What?” I say. My eyes grow wide.

“I think I can arrange that. It’s hard to tell how long it will before she dies.” I like this doctor. Most doctors are all ‘You won't die!’ but Dr Cook is always honest. It’s no use telling a dying person that they’ll be fine.

When I go home, I tell my mum and dad about what Lilly said after dinner. They didn’t say anything so I finish my homework and go to bed.

The next day is Saturday. It’s also holidays so normally I’d sleep in. But I can't unless I’m sure that Lilly’s okay. I go to ask my parents if I can go.

“Mum, can I see Lilly?”

“No. Not right now.”

“Why?”

“Why yes?”

“Because she could die any second now.”

“She’s not a good influence on you. She’s got you dreaming about being on the Xfactor.” Dad answers.

“What?”

“Look, if you step out this house, you are never coming back again.”

I look at both my parents. Then I think of Lilly. I can't let her die like that. Not without saying goodbye. I turn away from my family and say, “Fine! I can take care of myself! If you haven’t noticed, I’ve been doing it my whole life!”

Then I run. I run all the way to the hospital.
