Janet White is a lonely girl. Shunned by her fellows and neglected by her busy parents, she lives a life of isolation. She craves the day someone, anyone, would come along and fill the void in her heart and it comes as no surprise when she finds herself drawn to the mysterious young man calling himself Mr. Strings.  Eccentric yet extraordinary, he offers Janet a chance at companionship, whisking her away into his world of delightfully chilling puppet shows. 
But all is not as wonderful as it seems in this realm of magic and mystery, for danger lurks close at hand. The world of the Damned Ones is an unforgiving place, one which Janet must journey through in order to find the fabled Circus of the Damned.

Putting it into her pocket she moves on and looks for a way home not thinking much more on it. Out of the blue an old lady turns up at her door and asks for the object back warning her of the bad luck it has. Samantha kindly goes to fetch it, hands it over and only when she closes the door does she wonder just how this lady has found her home? Upon telling Louise and Marcus she is laughed out the room and disbelieved. However, when one of them notices something very unpredictable happening within their room they start to very quickly believe in what Samantha was saying!

And it is, I hope, at its base and in its bones, a good and meaningful adventure story. It is about saving the day, but it also about learning to accept ourselves for who we are, and finding our family as we go.
