Every year, one person is chosen to be the Heartbreaker: the person who must break four girls/boys hearts in a day, the day before homecoming. And for the past three years, they've been chosen from Tabytha Hoffheins's year. Alex Cross, Beckett Dyle, and Dylan Asler. Everyone's expecting another boy - mainly Ryley Morrer, the new foreign exchange student who Tabytha hates with a passion. But instead, on that day, Tabytha finds a piece of paper in her locker, with all four of those names on it. She's been chosen. Twice. For her, this isn't a honour, it's a setback. She doesn't want to do it, but she knows the threat of not completing her assignment. The Heartbreakers who don't complete it...well... none of them have ever survived to the end of the winter term.

Elle Harper has everything she could ever ask for. Her family is rich, she owns a nice car, and she has the most popular boy in school as her boyfriend. But there is one thing that she didn't want. A stalker. Elliot Harrison has been stalking Elle since they were children. He is completely obsessed with her. It takes everything in her to try and stay away from him, but he always seems to be there. At her locker, her car, even her house, seeing as he is her neighbor. He sends her "love" letters that scare her and puts flowers in her locker and her car. The night of the Senior Prom is one that Elle and her twin brother, Zeke, will never forget. The day begins as good as ever. Elle's friends come over and get ready with her. There is laughter and a lot of pictures. But when the cops show up in the middle of the dance looking for Elle and her brother, Elle begins to fear the worst has happened. And whatever it is, she knows that Elliot is behind it all. If he can't have her, then no one else can. Elle has no idea how far Elliot will go to make that true. She is in danger and it's right around the corner.
