A darkness has returned far sooner than anyone would've realized. As the protectors of all the children of the world, it's the Guardians' job to once again put a stop to whatever dangerous plan Pitch Black will come up with. But, unbeknownst to both parties, the involvement of a young imaginative girl and her aunt trying to find a direction in life will become both the key and turning point in both parties' goal.
Kennedy Pierce, a year after graduation, is feeling adrift and afraid of the goal she's been working towards for the past three years. Unsure of her abilities to succeed and unable to make herself push forward out of the fear she's been in half her life. After getting an offer, she moves to live with her older sister Emily and her niece Maya. While trying to adjust to her new life, Kennedy quickly learns about Maya's "imaginary" friends. But once strange occurrences start to happen surrounding her and Maya, Kennedy tries to uncover the bigger things going on.
Unsure whether to believe any of this at all, Kennedy then gets caught up and involved in the world of The Guardians. Once Maya becomes dangerously endangered by these forces of darkness The Guardians fight and protect against, Kennedy needs to learn how to protect her niece from the danger of the world, both seen and unseen by the normal world.
Through her journey with The Guardians, Kennedy learns what it means to see the magic and potential of the world and learns to not take life or anything in it for granted. Or else it may disappear before you can fully value and cherish it, including yourself and your own life, abilities, power, and inner magic.
