***The Corner Booth Contest Runner-Up***

WARNING: contains one blue-eyed stranger, one fast-talking heroine, and a couple of scenes steamier than a mirage at noon. Throw in gigantic dust storms, lawmen out for blood, plus a wasteland to be traversed and you are in for an adventure sultrier than the desert sun!

You would think May was living in paradise. After all, a gorgeous man just showed up on her porch willing to do anything she asks of him. But this is no paradise. May lives in a world settled by technology-rejecting idealists wishing to live in harmony with the land. That land, however, has not been very cooperative. The desert in the heart of the planet is spreading outward at an alarming pace, swallowing anything that gets in its way. And May? She's in its way, all right!

Alone on her parents' dying farm, May has two goats, a shotgun, and a whole lot of dust. That's about all she has, until the day Ro shows up. Ro brings with him a secret most of their world isn't ready to face. The lawmen on his tail will do whatever it takes, including murder, to keep that secret buried in the desert sand. If they don't succeed in killing May and Ro, no matter: the desert might just do the job for them.

Through thick and thin the Law shall prevail. A new sense of purpose awaits us, children of light, in the land where it all began. The darkness in which we once cowered in fear, now curbed by the might of our endless light. Come, brothers, come, sisters. Let there be peace among the wicked, just as the Law dictates. Peace and certainty is all that you have ever longed for, little angel. A bright, stable future. A roof without holes above thy head. Acknowledgement and recognition of thy existence, feverish dreams of grandeur. Greed born from yearning, treacherous vines of rapacity taint your innocent soul. You seek a future that does not exist. Let thy fingers hold the fragile line between dream and nightmare. Let thy light navigate the path. Shall thee give in and falter, O' land of old, envelop his body in thy unending flame of chaos. Spit out nothing but an empty husk, the remnants of a smile once so bright. Shall thee prevail, O', Great Kazdel, I ask of you, the impossible - take mercy on the innocent. Don't let the radiance dim and don't let the mind turn bleak. Wake, young traveler. Bid thy farewells and burn thy bridges. It's time to say goodbye, curly head. Cross post from AO3. For a shorter and more on-point description, look no further! I had something silly written up before throwing it out in exchange for that wall of text upstairs. It's a little story "about a young, dumb sankta who's been dealt a bad hand at life, looking for his place in all this mess. The pointless search for a better future leads him far, far away from home, to a country forever ravaged by war and misery - Kazdel, the promised land where devils roam free and peace feels out of place." Anyway, it's quite lengthy, but hopefully enjoyable? Slide a comment if you want, I'll give you a tiny kiss on the forehead. Man, do I love comments. (Lastly, to point out, English is not my native language, but I don't think it'll be much of an issue ;3)

Seventeen year old Casper Reynolds and his goofy laidback best friend Eric live and breathe surfing. Living in a busy tourist town in California right on the coast makes for a pretty crowded city, especially in the summer. Casper's parents just so happen to own one of the most sought out hotels in the city. So when they end up short-handed during the busiest time of year they ask Casper to help out. Instead of getting to surf from sunrise to sunset, instead of being able to check out the 'hot babes' as Eric would say, and instead of having the summer of a lifetime he gets stuck with a summer job. It doesn't help one bit when a mysterious grudge-holding girl ends up staying at the hotel Casper's working at. After a chance encounter that goes horribly wrong the girl obviously has it out for Casper. If personalities could be graded like school work Casper would be a solid C. He's average. He's not memorable or extraordinary or even remarkable. The mystery girl however would be an F as in a failure of a human being. She's mean, cruel, and simply unbearable. So what happens when Casper finds out the girl has secret? Maybe...just maybe he'll realize there's more to her than a rude, crude exterior. With couple heated arguments, sarcastic comments, and a little blackmail anything is possible. *Warning* ~This is my first book on Wattpad so, read at your own risk. It gets better as it goes along though. Enjoy! xx~ ___________________________________________ Hey!! Thanks for clicking on my story (hopefully it wasn't accidental haha). Anyways just a few disclaimers. 1. The original picture for the cover was off WeHearit and after a little picmonkey.com magic it turned into that. So yeah. 2. This isn't really a diclaimer but, whatever: Plagerism is a crime and it's just plain rude. All epilogues, prologues, chapters, and characters belong to me. They're MINE. Understood? Okay good. 3. This story wouldn't exist without Sammmy134's amazing idea so thank you so much!!

✬ 𝕋𝕙𝕖 𝔻𝕒𝕣𝕜 & 𝕃𝕚𝕘𝕙𝕥 𝕊𝕖𝕣𝕚𝕖𝕤 ✬ There is a crucial moment in one's life that determines the outcome of everything; well, as books and movies would have you believe. But Monica McCaslin didn't think she would ever be one of those people, would ever have one of those moments. Brought up in a small suburb, with everything she could ever ask for, there wasn't much left for her to want. Monica's ordinary life was to go as such- follow her high school sweetheart to college, graduate, get married, have two kids; the cookie cutter life. White picket fence included. What she did not expect was to meet a dark-haired stranger sitting all alone on a park bench, at that very same school she was to attend with said future husband. After a brief conversation, just a handful of words between them, Monica decides to go on a cross-country road trip with him; putting her faith and future in the hands of a stranger. Thinking she'd soon regret her decision and the life she left behind, she realizes she doesn't at all. Free of expectation and a future that she thought was set in stone, she begins to find the woman she was truly meant to be. State by state, with each border they cross, Monica liberates her true self. 𝔹𝕠𝕠𝕜 ➃ 𝕠𝕗 ➃ - ℂ𝕠𝕞𝕡𝕝𝕖𝕥𝕖 - ✬ ✫ ✬ ✫ ✬ ✫ ✬ ✫ ✬ ✫ ✬ ✫ ✬ ✫ ✬ ✫ ✬ ✫ ✬ This is a work of fiction. Highest ranked- #10 in action 2/16/2017 A promotion. That's all I wanted. I didn't want to run for my life. I didn't want to be kidnapped. I didn't want to face death. I didn't want to find out my whole life was a lie. I just wanted a bloody promotion. Guess fate had other plans? **** The cold air fanned over my face as I opened the door. The exit door lead to the back of the building so it was pitch black. I leaned against the wall trying to control myself. Blood was running down my arm and head. My hair was stuck to my face from all the sweat and blood. Everything was spinning around me and the ground seemed like it was shaking. Groaning I sat down and put my head on my knees. He knows who I am. He knows how I look like. He knows where I work so possible knows where I live. I am not safe anymore... no where. While I was in my own world I heard faint sounds behind me but I didn't bother to look or run away. The footsteps got closer and I was pretty sure it was Walker's men. I should run. I should try to fight. But what's the point in trying to run away? He would eventually find me and if he has his way he would most likely kill me. If this is my fate then why am I trying to fight it? I felt someone harshly grab my waist and pull me up and I complied. They dragged me down the alley and into the busy street. I heard the opening of a car and the next thing I knew I was being thrown into a car. My head hit the hard leather seat and the door shut behind me. Maybe this is how my life will end. Maybe I should just let it happen. Maybe I was destined to die alone as a no one. With that I let the darkness consume me.
