Vera is the polar opposite of normal. She's a dangerous thrill-seeker who's only sixteen and alone in the world. Well, pretty much alone, except for her best friend, Jaye, and a fierce, scarred mutt named Bite.

Living on the streets and practically starving to death, begging and pickpocketing to survive, until she crosses paths of a ruthless gang leader named Blade. He's harsh and abusive, but like a twisted idol and lover to her. She changes her name and personality, becoming a prostitute and a killer who quickly rises in the ranks of the gang.

Then she meets Hunter.

He's kind and gentle, unlike the rest of the people she's accustomed to. He wants to help her, but she won't let him. Can he break her away from Blade's gang and into a better life, or is she too tangled in and unable to save herself from the one she lives?
