11 year old Evelina Morse has dyslexia which causes her to face many issues in learning and everyday life. The kids at school tease her, her own brother teases her, and her only school friend is the guidance counsellor. Mrs. Peach next door comforts her a lot so Evelina wants to bring her husband home from Africa as a thank you. While she is making her plan, the teasing gets worse and a lot of issues occur and her teacher is even thinking about moving her back a grade. Evelina is desperate so she sneaks out one night hoping to fix everything, but doing that takes her on a spiraling road towards danger and she doesn't know how to escape.
