In the city of Agora, every family has to pay a ransom for every child they bring into the world due to the over increasing population. And the ones who can't pay the required 20,000 rashes, unwillingly force their offspring into becoming an outsider and obtaining a lowly paid life when they're found out. 

Because of this Blaire Willowby has never set foot in the outside world. All her life she has been kept inside, hidden away at the very sound of a door knock. Except all that changes on her sixteenth birthday and Blaire finally has the chance to leave her dungeon and explore Agora. 

However it suddenly goes horrifically wrong and her world is turned into chaos as she is forced to run for her life or join the many other illegal children who stalk the city as workers for the workhouse - the believed and rightful home of many for the Illegimates. 

But that doesn't stop Blaire and her now found friends especially the smartass Knight from escaping the hardships inside, only to fall upon a life threatening plan that will affect all the Illegimates. Will Blaire and her friends be able to stop before  it's too late for all of them?All Rights Reserved

She decides to help, along with her friends, and begins to realize that being young does not exclude her from the horrors of war, and she is faced with the fact that even if she is able to return home, nothing-not even her-will ever be the same. *Basically, a YA novel with teenagers being teenagers, more gay, more diversity, a lot more swearing, and darker humor. It is not long before Jago, the ruler of Saffire, learns that a woman on Saffire is pregnant and he unleashes all his power to prevent the birth. Jago will not give up power. Demalynn is surprised to find out she is the Helper, but is astounded to learn the identity of the Gravidarum. Demalynn must battle to stay alive and fumbles towards the realization that Aiden is much more than a close friend. She is certain, with the certainty that only a seventeen-year-old can possess, that Aiden is her only true love.
