"No, please. DON'T!" My eight year old self begged, grabbing onto his wrist. All the big kids looked at me like i grew three heads. Apparently they don't believe in The Guardians, but I do. I mean, I'm eight years old! "Why not, Em? No one around here believes in me. They only believe in the other four." He replied, almost yelling. My face immeadietly fell. He should know not to yell at a eight year old! shot his face up and looked into my eyes. I noticed tears. His face softened a bit the longer he looked at me, but he was still waiting for my input. I reached my small nimble fingers up to his cold pale face to wipe the tears away, as I stammered out "I-I don't want you to leave. I'll miss you too m-much." "I need to leave, Emma. No one is believing in me" "I believe in you! I believe..." Tears started streaming down my face at this point. I would just miss him so much! "Please don't cry, Em." He hugged me, crying more then I ever saw him cry. Heck! I've never seen him cry! "I-I just have to leave..." He trailed off, trying not to make me cry anymore. "Promise you wont forget me? And you'll come back?" I asked, my voice cracking. He wiped my tears away and smiled a sad smile. "Promise" He held out his pinky and I lightly giggled, making his sad smile grow wider and happier. I held my pinky to his, and we pinky sweared. We looked eachother in the eyes and smiled. He was still crying, as was I.With one last hug, and a kiss on the forehead, he held up his staff and flew to the North Pole. And that, ladies and gentlemen, is the day I lost my one and only friend. The blood had already leaked down my forehead, but I kept my eyes on Shane and tried to blink quickly to clear my vision. "Hang on, please. Please hang on." "This is all my fault. The one good thing to happen in my life...." Shane let out a sob but never stopped walking. I just wanted to hug him and tell him everything was going to be alright. I could feel the blood still tripping down my leg and face, so I knew I couldn't make false promises but Shane needed me. He needs me. "Come on mom and dad!" The ten year old says as she pulls her mother and father further into the forest. "Honey, it will be here all season, no need to rush." Her mother spoke. "Yes, you must learn to be patient Aury." Her father states. The little brunette starts to slow down. She now walks a normal pace between her parents. "I'm sorry mom and dad, I'm just excited. Its been a whole year." The girl explains, Her mom snickers. "We understand sweetie, but it just finished turning anyway. Its only the 3rd of October." Her father also explains. "Otherwise known as my birthday!" She exclaims. Her mother and father giggle. "Look, there it is!" Her mother points to a big Sugar Maple Tree with leaves colored with vibrant yellow, burnt orange and strawberry red. The girl's hazel eyes fill with excitement, she jumps up and down and runs to the big tree. "It's as pretty as ever!" The little girl says happily. The child hugs the tree while her parents smile. They walk up to her and kneel down to her height. "I know we've been coming to this tree for 4 years now Aury, but you know if you ever feel sad especially during the fall, you can always hang out under this tree."
