Maya Kurtis had always dreamt of vigilante justice and superhero status, it was why she signed up to the Sapient+ program to begin with. Problem is, this city keeps far better control over its superhumans than the places in the comics. Instead of sexy costumes and a name to strike fear into the criminal heart, she's just ID tag S+489002, additional details: translocation. Maya Kurtis, to put it quite honestly, is just another fancy police weapon in just another anti-terrorist squad.

And then she meets him. Calls himself Card Shark, because it's not a gamble if you cheat, and when you're cheating the entire system, who better to ally yourself with than Maya? She’s an inside source. He's got the outfit, the name, and he certainly strikes something into her heart, even if it's not always fear.

Sapient+ promised glory and recognition but they turned her into just another password protected computer entry. Is Shark about to be any different, or is he using her too? And doesn't a double life of villainy still seem a little too far from her original plans?

You're just a little birdie, minding your own business-flying around, dodging falling leaves, trying not to get too involved in the messes of the city below. But, oh, the drama! The masked hero and the brooding villain you've been watching for months-yeah, those two? They have a lot of secrets. The hero's perfect, obviously, saving the world and all that. But the villain? Oh, dear. By day, they wear a mask of evil and power, but you've seen what happens when the cape comes off. There's some serious darkness lurking in their private life-self-loathing, quiet pain, and way too many late-night mood swings. But don't worry, the villain's got it under control... or so they think. You thought their love story was one of those sweet "enemies-to-lovers" kind of deals, until you saw the truth from way up here. It's a mess. Betrayal. Anger. Love. Secret identities. A fight that's way more personal than you ever imagined. But hey, that's not your problem, right? You're just a bird. Except, well... Maybe you care. Maybe you're the one who's been flying around, wondering if their messy, secret love story will ever have a happy ending-or if one of them will end up on the wrong side of the city's skyscraper (literally). From your vantage point, it's a little too close for comfort, but hey-no one ever said love was easy, even for villains and heroes. Just try not to get caught in the crossfire, okay? "Stop pretending to be an idiot, idiot." Ouch. It burns. "You're starting to sound like a dear old friend of mine," she adds, her tone implying that her "friend" isn't so much of a "friend" as a mortal enemy who she probably also dragged into an alley on multiple occasions. Because she must be a fan of alley-dragging. Theater major. "I bet that friend was super amazing," I retort anyway. "She'd have to be to put up with you." Oh! Snap! I grin like an idiot at my own joke, realize how uncool that is, and then quickly rearrange my face into a frown. "I'm sorry. I don't quite understand. You're supposed to be a superhero, so why are you threatening a fellow superhero? Isn't that kind of against our code or whatever?" "You don't have a code. Superheroes who follow codes don't drop off information about people's allegedly dead sons at their doorsteps and then run." Well, can't say she doesn't have a point there. -- After being framed for the horrific murder of Birchwood City's most revered superhero's six year-old son, Maya Waterman abandons her super-villain persona and finds herself lost without any sense of identity and purpose. Being hunted by a vengeful super is hard enough, but after her employer fires her and she's evicted from her apartment, Maya begins to become something she had prayed she would never become again- helpless. She needs nothing less than a miracle to save herself, and much to her surprise, she gets just that-- even if it entails her trying her hand at becoming a good guy for once.

Maya applied pressure to my wound. I hissed from the pain. "Stop fucking around." She rolled her eyes at me. Maya finished tending my wound, wrapping it with a bandage. As she got up to put the first aid away, I stopped her. My thumb rubbed against the cool skin of her hand. I pulled her to sit on my lap. My fingers ran through her hair. "You're doing it again." I ignored her, sinking my chin into her shoulder. "I have no idea what you're talking about." I placed small pecks on neck. Her breathing turning heavy. "Stop. Someone could walk in." "And? You think they want to watch? Shit, I would." _____________________________________ ~Maya Castillo~ Escaping her traumatic past, Maya and her brother, Santiago, run to New York. Meet Jessica Lawton, AKA The Siren, wife of Floyd Lawton, AKA Deadshot. She was born with a unique set of gifts that granted her the freedom to do whatever she wanted, whenever she wanted. But not everyone, specifically her family, saw that as a gift until she met Deadshot, and her life changed seemingly for the better. Now, they're both in jail and awaiting their chance to escape when Amanda Waller recruits them for a mission that will get them one step closer to freedom and reintroduce Jessica to someone she hasn't seen in almost 22 years. Can the Lawtons get along with their new 'friends' and save the world? Will Jessica's reunion lead to good or bad consequences? Can villains change their ways for good, or have they been bad guys for too long to change? The following is a 'Suicide Squad' insert; All characters, excluding the OC, belong to DC & the creators of 'Suicide Squad'; To avoid copyright infringement, some scenes may be revised and/or removed to signify the difference Jessica's presence creates.
