After running away from her abusive alcoholic father, Aaliyah Brown thinks she's finally free - until she's kidnapped and sold to August Coly, a man feared for his ruthless crimes. Known for kidnapping, murder, and unspeakable acts, August is everything she was taught to fear... yet everything she can't seem to escape. Trapped inside his world of danger, control, and secrets, Aaliyah swears she'll never trust him. But as the days turn into nights and the fear begins to blur into something else, she starts to see the man beneath the monster. What happens when the girl who was bought begins to fall for her captor? Can love grow in the shadows of violence - or will it destroy them both? "You keep saying you won't hurt me... but you killed all those people. You hurt all those girls. How do I know you won't do that to me?" "I guess," he whispers, breath ghosting over her shoulder, "you'll just have to trust me." "I'm not good with trusting... people," I say, as his eyes pull me deeper into a darkness I might never escape.
