Bumps and creeks of the night have more meaning when you understand them. It's not "the house settling" anymore. It's "something's in the house". A cat yowling isn't just "a cat yowling" anymore. It's a warning sign, "something's coming". You have to read the signs of the night to survive. If you can't or refuse to read the signs, you won't last very long.
