Out of nowhere people started developing powers, with them heroes and villains where born, the world changed into a new era. Heroes used to keep us safe in the face of villainous crimes, they used to be the greatest line of defense we could count on, but as suddenly as they appeared they vanished. No trace of them was left when the world needed them the most. The world fell into despair when a massive unknown wave caused disaster all around the world. So when she's thrust from her relatively normal life into a classically cliched Superhero story, Rya fights her hardest to get out. Too bad her best friend Trey Roberts also happens to be the newest member of the League of Heroes. He might be new to the whole Superhero thing, but he's not going to let Rya get hurt on his watch. Unfortunately, that leaves just one option, for Trey's mysterious partner LP to intervene. For a Hero, he sure does have an off-the-books way of working that causes he and Rya to clash instantly. The more ingrained into her life the Supers become the more desperate Rya is to figure out who's targeting her, and more importantly, who LP is beneath the mask. Rya is willing to do anything for the truth. WARNING: CONTAINING AMOUNTS OF SASS PREVIOUSLY UNKNOWN TO MANKIND In the city of NYC--- Ok. Hold up. First of all, New York City. What, are ya gonna assume everyone here knows what NYC is? Anyway, this is about two people. I can almost hear you rolling your eyes. Another cliché teen fiction with a bad boy and a good girl? Nope. This is about superheroes. I can still hear you rolling your eyes. Superheroes. Like in comic books? Like people with super speed and mutant powers? Yes. But this isn't about the fight they have. More about the lives they lead without the masks. But just keep in mind, people who live in the world have all different skin colours. Do not assume my characters are of one unless I state them explicitly. and diversity is welcome here in my novel! Anyhow, back to the story. Ever wonder where supervillains go after their fight with the hero? What about the other side of the story? It's not like they sit in their lair cackling all day and planning how to kidnap reporters. What about the lives they lead? And instead of just focusing on that, what if the superhero and the supervillain knew each other? I mean, can they see behind the mask? No, so their identities are secret. So what if the hero and villain were best friends? What if they were roommates? What if they were falling for each other? And what happens when they find out? Now, I assume you know all of these questions will be answered in this book. But hold on. It's going to take a while. You're in for a bumpy ride. And if any of you got any of the references in this description, give yourself a pat on the back. That is a beautiful thing. And if you can name all the references in this book, you truly are a gift to mankind. Fangirl out.

Shortlisted for the Open Novella Contest 2019 • Being a Supervillain is tough. Between managing a secret lair and making sure your mom doesn't stop loving you because you keep telling everyone she's dead, it's a really hard business to be good at? Add to that, the fact that somehow you got arrested because your cat sitter didn't take the day off and then you go around expressing your unconditional love for pancakes in a Super holding cell because technically they can't put you in a proper prison and you don't really have a choice because lawyers are expensive? And then, you realise your best friend is plotting go take over your spot as the greatest villain there ever was? Okay, maybe not the greatest, but you do come pretty close to it! To top it off, there's that one Superhero who's just so completely gorgeous, you couldn't imagine any harm coming to them? Because they're just that precious? I guess that makes me a Supervillain with minor time travel superpowers and a huge crush on a not so powerful Superhero? And all you have to do is protect yourself and everyone you love from your ex best friend/sidekick --because let's face it that's the highest level of praise for a wretched traitor here--and you also have to get out of Super Holding somehow? What could go wrong? Right?

"You're a nice guy, I wonder why you don't have a girlfriend, fufufu~?" "You're in your twenties and you haven't been with a girl yet!?" These are questions I commonly get, and I get it, I'm a decent-looking guy who's got a fancy job as a Detective. But in my defense... IT'S NOT THAT EASY TO GET A GIRL!! At least that was what I used to say until I somehow ended up dating an actress. Though that sounds like a dream come true I'm afraid she'll dump me soon since.... her Ex is a superhero and well... we all know what happens with guys like me... Metas existed. It wasn't a secret. Few people were okay with metas living among them. Most people tried to keep metas and humans separated. Humans got a lot more privilege, no matter what metas tried. Protests? Ignored. Hiding your powers? They always found out. It had been going on for decades now, since the first ever meta sighting was recording, and it was common knowledge that metas deserved less. One college student had the brilliant idea to stand up for his fellow metas. For the first time in history, a meta accomplished something and wasn't struck down for it. When another college student comes around with a less than ideal past with a potential villain, will his connection tip the scales of justice or will his efforts be for naught? Because she must be a fan of alley-dragging. Theater major. "I bet that friend was super amazing," I retort anyway. "She'd have to be to put up with you." Oh! Snap! I grin like an idiot at my own joke, realize how uncool that is, and then quickly rearrange my face into a frown. "I'm sorry. I don't quite understand. You're supposed to be a superhero, so why are you threatening a fellow superhero? Isn't that kind of against our code or whatever?" "You don't have a code. Superheroes who follow codes don't drop off information about people's allegedly dead sons at their doorsteps and then run." Well, can't say she doesn't have a point there. -- After being framed for the horrific murder of Birchwood City's most revered superhero's six year-old son, Maya Waterman abandons her super-villain persona and finds herself lost without any sense of identity and purpose. Being hunted by a vengeful super is hard enough, but after her employer fires her and she's evicted from her apartment, Maya begins to become something she had prayed she would never become again- helpless. She needs nothing less than a miracle to save herself, and much to her surprise, she gets just that-- even if it entails her trying her hand at becoming a good guy for once.
