March 24, 1856, the American Civil War rages on. William is just another soldier for the Confederate Army, until he is killed by friendly fire for putting his life on the line for a slave girl he'd never met. Now resurrected and cursed with a form of a Grim, he is forced to aid every world in every realm that needs his help. For over a hundred years, he wanders the universe, never able to interact with the mortals, because he'll just be whisked off as soon a he completes his job in that world.
