The Doktor's Spyglass is fantasy noir. It has elements of steampunk, epic fantasy, and classic detective fiction--think of it as Sherlock Holmes meets Locke Lamora.

When an eccentric inventor is reported dead, consulting detective Irik Thijis is called in to investigate. He soon discovers that Doktor Keynish Helg is not as dead as he seems, and that something much stranger than simple murder is afoot.
The Inspection Service of the holy city of Oridos is about as useful as a horseless carriage when it comes to solving crimes, and Thijis is used to sorting out their cases for them. But what he discovers lurking in the Doktor's mansion soon finds them all out of their depth.
As Thijis probes deeper into his strangest case yet, he realizes that blood and death are only the opening gambit in a play that may cost him not only his livelihood, but his life.

This is considered the 3rd version of the story, I am editing the 4th version for publication. The official book is planned to come out somewhere around 2026-2027 but I still have to finish the manuscript. I posted this story on RoyalRoad and Fiction press, I haven't looked at either site in years. A life full of joy and tragedy, Vila's story begins with the very person she despises. Thankfully, a man by the name of Sommi rescues her from the clutches of her master. Years go by with her bubble of ignorance to what goes on anywhere else and she lives happily on the outskirts of Kai village. This all changes when she comes home from the market one day to find her little hut ransacked and her hero, Sommi, gone. A man named Vensen haunts her every thought as she travels the country of Aishy and the void itself in search of her father figure. Many strange and horrifying events take place as Vila also encounters revelations of who she is and the family she comes from. The Demon of Saint-Eli
When a young devout woman seek out his help, the mysterious private investigator Simeon Engels knows that something peculiar is happening behind the masquerade of the town's most powerful man. But he will need to be careful... for justice can very easily be mistaken for bloodlust. The first ever short story of mine to earn a Mature filter (as it typically makes me uncomfortable to write dark and gritty stories), and, another first, one completely outside of the universes of my previous stories. It's completely standalone, with its own mythology and fantasy/realism rules, etc. Which made it even more so liberating, as I no longer needed to stick within an existing continuity in terms of what's possible and what's not. The Demon of Saint-Eli is the introduction (in an hopefully long collection of short stories) of an OC that I have come to love the concept for months: Simeon Engels, the mysterious private investigator that hides a greater secret than anyone could ever guess. At first wishing it to be a Victorian/film noir hybrid, I changed it instead to a steampunk setting, that allowed a greater range of what could be integrated in the story. Overall, I hope you enjoy this story. I hope to make it into a collection of stories revolving around the adventures and character development of Simeon Engels, and I hope that you will find him as interesting as I conceptualize him to be. 9th May 2021: this story is now part of a sale of art for charity. He came upon a realization that he is an incarnation of the first alpha-human (the greatest supernatural being ever made by the Gods). He learns of a ploy that will destroy his entire world.
