Laura was an outcast, with her only friend being a more popular boy named Braden, when she gets picked for the most stressful job she can think of. When a child gets to the age of 16 they are given their place in the so called perfect society. That is were they will work for the rest of their life until they can retire. However only after Laura's first day of training for the job she is already a target for a group called the King's Court. This group is thought to be responsible for all the people who vanish. With her mother taken by the group and only her father left, will she chose to stay behind and protect him? Or will she go after her lost and possibly dead mother? And will she succeed in stopping more of this from happening?

I have restarted this book. I wanted to make it easier to read and more enjoyable. I hope to make shorter chapters and update frequently. :) In the beginning Sylar has no name. No one cares. She's just another kid to fall into a system because she was an unwanted mess. A child that doesn't talk? Yea, no one care about that either. A shady group home filled with bullies and secrets? Yea, you guessed NO ONE CARES! To find friends in a place like this is unlikely. This place is built to feed off the fears of kids and their lack of parental role models. No one holds on to dreams for long in a place like this. You get placed here and you are as good as forgotten. Except when a couple shows up looking as out of place as an astronaut in a gold mine or a miner in space whichever one you prefer. This couple comes and shakes things up.
