What happened before Thomas entered the Maze? What was life like, when you've tried to get out for three years, but still have not? When you didn't have hope?
This is what Newt experiences as soon as the box open and he enters this new world through the box. But Newt isn't the best at making good choices for himself and others, and when all the struggles he faces in the Glade, in the Maze, with the Gladers, come together, he has to make one difficult choice:
Is it better to stay in the Maze until they get out? Or is the real exit dying while trying?
(just know that before Newt realizes his name several chapters in, he's referred to as "him" from his own perspective)

Also, sorry if a few things don't add up to the original series that James Dashner wrote. Not all facts may be correct.

Newt x Reader Story. Book 1: The Maze. I rewatched the movie and took notes before starting this book, I also read the book before writing this. There aren't many chapters, but each has an average of 1,457 words per chapter (including the prologue), and a total number of 13,068 words in the whole book. It's not a lot, but it's worth a read :). Newt's suicide attempt still happened, but he fully healed from his injuries. The Misfire:Book 1 (Newt || A TMR Fanfiction)
To say that the Gladers were extremely confused once they realized who was sent up in the lift this time, was a complete exaggeration. The gladers disregarded any suspicions with your arrival, as they thought you were just another mouth to feed. After all, YOU were only the 2nd girl to be delivered into the Glade. Much like everyone else, you were just as confused and lost. With no memory before waking up in that box, the only clue to all this chaos was a vague writing in your arm, no knowledge who wrote it and what it exactly meant. In this seemingly hopeless place, will your arrival make a difference? Or will you just make things even worse?
