Lady Charlotte would rather stay buried behind a book than marry for anything short of love. She's turned down every proposal that's come her way despite a dowry that grows with each failed season as incentive for someone, anyone, to marry her, much to her father's ire. For what is Life without Love? Holland Wesley, Earl of Kimberly, has no time for wife hunting. He'd rather be playing cards in an unreputable gaming hell than twirling around ballrooms to catch the eye of an heiress rich enough to save his family name from drowning in debt, or so it would seem. But a chance meeting and a single dance might just change the fates of this most unlikely pairing, proving to each other that first impressions can be misleading and life is all about Second Dances.

By all accounts, Charlotte Hastings should be happy with her grandmothers match; Alexander Thatch is a nobleman, third in line for the throne. But Charlotte has always dreamed of a Love Match, and this certainly is not that. This feels like a cold business transaction. As Charlotte is whizzed across ballrooms, she can't help but wish for something more, and she wonders if the thing she has been dreaming of all her life is in the attractive serving boy on her Grandmothers estate, that she can't seem to stay away from. However, the more she gets to know Alexander the more she likes him. It seems Charlotte is to make an impossible choice, both with horrible repercussions.
