I looked into those empty dark eyes of his and said, "Haven't you ever heard that the student always becomes the master. You taught me well in terms of fighting. But in terms of living that's where you and I seem to clash heads. Today after this battle only one or none of us will come out alive. I'm not afraid of death. Are you?"

The whole camp was filling with smoke. I coughed, praying that my lungs would keep working for just a few more minutes. "Eli, which way is west?"
