I gasp in pain as two men haul me to a cell. "Let go of me!" I try to yell, but it comes out as a whisper. I had just been branded as an Outcast. I have the mark of a skull in between my shoulder blades with several cuts below. I double over in pain, but the men force me to walk just a bit further. They throw me into the cell and leave me. I manage to fix my blouse, and lay on my stomach, too weak to move. I try to wipe the sweat off my face when I hear another scream. It sounded female. I wonder if she was getting this blasted mark too. I hope not. I remember stories about the Outcast. It was a terrible mark, you'd be shunned, hated, even killed. I wonder if those things have changed now. I wipe my tears streaming down my face as the screams become louder.
