Sergei Dovlatov wrote of a prison he called the ZONE in the arctic circle or Russia where there was no need for cages. Hundreds of miles of ice and blistering cold meant escape would be an impossible and unsurvivable waste of time. A sick man thinking of his own suicide decided rather than take his own life he would make someone else feel his pain by trying to recreate this same environment for some poor soul.

"If she dares to run, she'll learn that mercy from me is sharper than cruelty." Tristan's POV She is the fire in my veins, the only ache I cannot kill. One breath from her and I am undone-beast and man both caged by her nearness. "Her nearness poisons me, yet I would drink her a thousand times over." "You don't see it yet, little flame... but your heart is already mine. If love does not bind you to me, chains will. If tenderness fails, I will wield obsession like a blade until you bleed only for me. The world may kneel or burn, I don't care- because you are the only sin I'll never repent, the only war I was born to win." "I would tear out my own soul, if she asked-yet cage hers if she runs."
