Elena was a nerd. A flat out nerd. She wore blazers and glasses and her head was always in a book. She always did her homework and always followed the rules. To her, this wasn't strange at all, but to everyone else, she just didn't fit in. She doesn't know why they bullied her and never will.
Her dad gets a promotion in work and him being the guy he is takes it because of the higher pay. They have to move from Louisiana in America all the way to Manchester in England. She thinks to herself, why not change my image? New people who have never met her before. What a great way to reset yourself
So what does she do? She buys ripped jeans and band tees and starts to act like she doesn't give a shit.
