She was everything but fine.

Being bullied has become a part of Gwen Patton's life, and all she ever wanted was a friend. Especially when every aspect of her life is miserable. So when she meets geeky and socially awkward, Max Henderson at Louis' Diner she intends on keeping the rumors about her and her past under wraps. But you can only pretend that everything is fine for so long until everything has been unraveled, then there is nothing left to do but to admit that you aren't, in fact, fine.

I squeeze his hand to let him know I'm fine and that what he said doesn't bother me. In fact I expected that from Pa and an earful when we see each other whether that be tonight or tomorrow. I know for a fact that Pa will not forgive me for ruining what little percent he thought he had at moving forward in his career.

As we walk back to his house I murmur, "You look better without your hair covering up your beautiful eyes."

He looks at me surprised. "Really?" he questions incredulously.

I nod. "Why so surprised?"

"Because m-most people find m-my eye color a bit-t odd," he explains.

"Not me."

He stays silent for a minute digesting what I said before he murmurs into my ear, "And you look your b-best when no one is p-pushing you to dress a-as somebody you're n-not."

I shifted uncomfortably in my seat as he stared across the table at me. I could seriously drown in his eyes. He was intoxicatingly attractive and he had to know it. That's why he was acting strange around me. For some reason, he looked at me as if I was the only one there with him. As if nobody else were here. And his voice... it pained me. It actually pained me with how utterly seductive and husky it always sounded. And the way he smelled all the time. I don't know why he smelled so strong, but I didn't mind. He smelled like evergreens and a hint of mint. It sounds like a bad combo, but it dizzied me with how lost I got in it. The thought of not being able to control myself, my thoughts and feelings and body when I'm around him, infuriated me. I was so good at holding myself together now, and he just unraveled me so easily, leaving me a mess. I wasn't the slightest bit afraid of him, and I had no idea why either. Just being in the same room, I felt like I didn't have to look over my shoulder. I didn't have to worry. I didn't even know who he was, and he still drew me in. "So, you were in California before? Why did you move?" Grace Hatfield asked, looking at him. She is our school's college and career advisor. She took me in and adopted me a couple years ago. She even gave me her last name. A saving grace. Why had she invited him here? Why did he come? He turned to her with a smile and a shrug. "Guess I just hadn't found what I was looking for yet." Something about the way he said it, sent a shiver down my spine. Why did I feel like there was so much more meaning behind his words than he was letting on? "Well, I hope you find what you're looking for." Grace said, and he turned to me with a devilish smirk and a mischievous glint in his eyes. "Something tells me that I will."

"What the hell did you do!?" I heard a feminine voice behind me. I groaned and turned around to meet a very angry face. I have never seen a girl this pissed before and honestly speaking, I am a little bit afraid. "She knew what she was getting into. Everyone knows I am player and I never stick to one girl." I shrugged and turned around to walk away. I didn't even take one step when I felt a firm hand on my t-shirt. She took a fist full of my shirt and turned me around so I was facing her. She then held my collar. Damn, she is almost the same height as me and if I would have been any normal guy, I would be terrified of her. "You don't treat girls like trash, asshole. She has feelings, she is not some toy that you got bored from after playing for a while. Apologize to her." She said through gritted teeth pointing towards Leah who was crying her eyes out. I noticed the crowd that started forming around us. I shrugged her hand away from my t-shirt and glared at her. "I will not apologize to anyone." I said slowly through gritted teeth. She is starting to piss me off. No one clashes me and no one stands against me. Even though I am new here, everyone knows that. I saw her eyes go blank and before I could duck, her fist made contact with my face and I felt sharp pain coursing through my nose. I held my nose tight and felt warm liquid flowing to my lips. Olivia Claire is a 16 year old high scholar. She is a fighter who never took anyone's shit and is famous for it. She mostly minds her own business occasionally helping people that might need her. Carter Grayson is a 16 year old guy recently transferred to Olivia's high school. Tall, handsome guy with lean figure, hazel eyes, brown hair and smile to die for. He has been known to be a player in his last high school and he plans on continuing that identity. So, what happens when a typical bad boy clashes with a not-so-nerd bad girl.

He brushed his lips against my jaw, his dark hair falling over his brow. "Open your eyes," he commanded. "Look at me." I followed his orders and looked into the raven-black depths before me. I saw my entranced gaze reflected in his glaring one. "Tell me what you see." I kept on looking at him, searching for something, anything, that remained of the person he used to be. They say the eyes are the windows to the soul. But his eyes were so dark, so empty . . . "Nothing. I see nothing," I whispered. He smirked, his gaze still on me. He pulled away, leaving me feeling cold. "Exactly. You see nothing - that's because there's nothing there." ** How much can a person change in just three years? Short and full of fiery spirit, Hanna Jordan is a gifted college student who is enrolled in one of the most prestigious culinary programs in the country. She's just returned from three years of study in France and is anxious to reconnect with her longtime friend, Rian Aronhalt. However, when she does finally see him, she's startled to find that he's become an entirely different person. Cold, ill-tempered, and exceptionally attractive, Rian is absolutely nothing like his old self. Worst of all, he claims he doesn't even remember her. Despite their differences, both are haunted by dark memories of the past, which form a poisonous bond between Hanna and Rian that neither can escape from. Can they both heal from the scars time left behind, and find love in the process?

"I can really take care of myself, but thanks for stepping in and all that." I said in a meek voice as I looked up to see his bare chest was wet and glistening from the water that covered his body and dripped down to the top of his jeans that hung mouthwateringly low on his hips. I wanted nothing more than to reach out and touch his chest, to feel the firmness under my fingers. His intense green eyes pierced through mine as he took a step toward me, causing my back to press up against the wall behind me. He ran his tongue over his bottom lip and grabbed the back of my neck, wrapping his fingers in my freshly washed hair. A gasp escaped through my parted lips as he yanked me forward and grabbed my hips. "Do you want me?" He questioned breathless. Kelsey Henderson has a dark and a dangerous past that she prefers to hide from and keep hidden. She wanted to test a theory. He wanted to win a bet. What could possibly go wrong? ------------------------------------------------- Why was this shit so much easier in the books?! The Macy Anderson in me would spit out the alternatives to every curse word known to man. The Ruby Buchannan in me would knee him in the groin. The Mia Hastings in me would lunge at him first, taking him on that table right there and now. The Haley Geller in me would confuse the fuck out of him by asking way too many questions. Hell! Even the Tessa Young in me would do something, like beg him to come at me with her desperate but wild ass... But the Lola Dino in me -aka the me, me- just stands there frozen, contemplating a very important decision in her head: fuck, fuck, fuck! Who do I act as next?! Um, how about yourself for a change? My conscience decides NOW to be a smartass. Yeah, right? Like that's ever worked before. Not even having the slightest clue of what to do, I wait for him to make the first move instead, and then I'll just go from there. So, I wait. And I wait. And I wait. And I wait. I wait as we remain staring at one another -I like a deer in headlights and he like a predator stalking his prey- for what seems like forever. But when his ripped, muscular frame finally charges at me, his strong tattooed hand instantly meeting the back of my head, he crashes my lips onto his so forcefully that I'm now just left with one thought and one thought only: Lola Dino, what the hell did you just get yourself into? ------------------------------------------------- *WARNING: Contains mature content including language, sex, violence, and drugs.
