Ruby James,( an alias) a 19 year old girl, graduating with a perfect score on top of her class, is quite odd, with the way she sits and only is ever seen eating sunflower seeds and sweets. Everybody knows who she is but doesn't dare go near her, her presence makes you unknowingly get goosebumps, many say she is creepy, but she is misunderstood. A harder past than most children had to endure left her cold and emotionless.

When she graduated high school she took a liking towards becoming a detective, she wanted to serve justice. With amazing deductive and reasoning skills she became knows as R, though she is with the police working along with chief Yagami and Matsuda, she holds back so the others don't suspect much, anonymously leaving notes in places that they pick up . When the Kira case comes along she takes quite an interest, and ends up working with L, who she, has strangest feelings she ever had puzzling her as why she isn't emotionless around him.
