Bridge of Souls

Aria Grimm has ferried souls from the physical world to their doors longer than she can remember. A spot has finally opened up in the higher ranks, and if she gets it, that means her role as Bridge would be over.

Playing it safe, Aria follows the three rules of being a Bridge, sticking to them closely: 1. Go to the dying and deceased and help the souls cross in a timely manner 2. Only touch the soul 3. No exceptions. Death set the rules in the beginning, and it's Death's workers that continue to enforce them, leaving the boss to do what it does...

Aria accidentally breaks one of the three rules when she's called to the side of seven-year-old Chanse Becklan who's dying of cancer. She saves his soul, imprinting the mark of the Bridge on his skin, but at what cost to her?

She meets Death for the first time, but not under good circumstances. Death places her on probation for the span of ten human years, giving Aria time to prove she's worthy of her job as Bridge and more. During her probation time, she learns more about Chanse, feeling that it's her responsibility to watch over him, and monitor what happens with the mark he now has. Chanse looks up to Aria, and when the ten years are up, she's left standing in front of Death once again, but this time the stakes are higher. Not only is her fate is in Death's hands, but so is Chanse's.
