Halt had never told Will, but before he became a Ranger, he had a son who he and Crowley trained. Fifteen years ago, that son, Cullen, left and became a mercenary and an outlaw. Crowley has received word that Cullen is working for Lord Bryant, Morgarath’s brother and the new Lord of Rain and Night. A man of Cullen’s skill in the hands of a man like Bryant is dangerous, and he sends Halt, Will and Horace to bring him in for trial. Halt and Cullen parted on bad terms. Can father and son repair their relationship in time to stop a plot to kill King Duncan? Or will they fail?

In an insignificant corner of Araluen sits an inn run by a man named Samuel. After the war against Morgarath he returned home only to find a wreck of what he once had. Disheartened by the turn of events far from in his favor, he must learn how to get by. When a Ranger visits his life is turned upside-down. Suddenly he's caught in the middle of action when all he wanted was peace and quiet, his humble village in danger, and only he can save it. -- Trigger/content warning for a little bit of blood/gore and self-sacrificial feelings. I didn't go too far with either because I cannot handle gore or want to make you upset, just enough for the plot. If you've read Flanagan's Ranger's Apprentice or Brotherband Chronicles (both for tweens and without any TW's that I know of) and been okay, you should be perfectly fine here.
