Si Brynna Whitethistle ay isang makapangyarihang Mage.  May kakayahan siyang manipulahin ang tubig at lupa, dalawa sa apat na elemento.  Ang isang Mage na kayang magmanipula ng mahigit sa isang elemento ay tinatawag na Elemental Mage.  Pero ang mga Elemental Mages ay matagal ng nawala ilang daang taon na ang nakaraan.  
Gaano man kalakas ng kapangyarihan ni Brynna ay walang silbi iyon dahil iniiwasan siya ng kanyang mga Masters at mga kaklase dahil sa pagiging anak niya sa isang preserver sa Palan.  Pero biglang nagbago ang buhay ni Brynna ng isang gabi ay ipinagtapat sa kanya ng kanyang nakagisnang ina na hindi pala siya nito tunay na anak.
Ngayon ay kailangang maglakbay si Brynna patungo sa Brun upang makilala ang tunay na mga magulang.  Ngunit pagdating sa Brun ay napag-alaman ni Brynna na may kumakalat na nakakamatay na sakit, ang Black fever.  Sa lakas ng kapangyarihan ni Brynna alam niyang may kakayahang siyang magamot ang sakit ngunit ang tanong ngayon ay kung paniniwalaan ba siya ng mga HealerMage sa Brun gayong isang apprentice lang siya ng isang preserver?  At higit sa lahat sampung taong gulang lang siya.
