Emma Clipstone is 14 years old and lived with her mother in London. It was when the war started. When countries were at war and the bitterness of death lingered mostly in the Capital cities, so she was sent to the safety of the Dawson family. When Emma refuses to stay and be wed to Sir Casten she is set on her way, with barely the clothes on her back to keep her alive. She feels alone. But she won't ask for help. She thinks she is strong, and she is. But ignorant. It's when she finds herself in the woods at night, her things lost and frightened out of her wits that she bumps into Mitchel, a farmer boy who shows her how to carry on. To stay strong.
