The United States has been taken over by the Marxists, communists from a small, yet powerful country called Heiland. After ten years of horrific fighting, the Marxists force the Patriots, the only true Americans left, to surrender by annihilating a third of the country and murdering two-thirds of the population.

Ten years after the bitter end of the war, eighteen year old Jen Resin lives alone, ousted by the nearby village. Accused of murder, of which she doesn't deny fault, she manages to stay hidden out in the woods until she runs crosses paths with a Marxist soldier, Kevin, who makes the nearly unbelievable claim that he left his militia and wants to help the Patriots. Jen brings this supposed 'good' Marxist to her only friend, a Patriot who lives in the village, hoping to get rid of him. She wants nothing to do with the conflict but Kevin's militia catches up to him, which sends them both running for their lives. Dragged into a war she despises, plagued by her inner demons, and now relentlessly pursued by the ruthless Marxists, Jen's mental state is on the brink of the breaking. She can't trust anyone, especially this wayward Marxist, Kevin, and maybe not even herself.

Hey guys! Just a few notes, my title has been changed to "The War Inside" (provided by @/z.ooo.e on Instagram) also, my first chapter has been changed many times and right now I have part of my most recent draft up on here, hope you enjoy!

*Trigger Warning*
My main character, Jen, does deal with self harm(cutting) and suicidal thoughts. Right now I only have the prologue and first chapter up and those subjects aren't talked about too explicitly but Jen does mention a few times how she doesn't want to live.
