In a world that is over populated, the rich and famous are left to decide the fiat of their children where as the poor and unstable are forced to give their kids up at the age of sixteen to the government, were they are then sent to the Facility to be tested for two years based on their skills in their chosen pathways. Those that prove worthy of living will be released at eighteen and will continue their lives making a living at what they do best. The ones that are not worthy of existence on Earth will be sent to a human slaughter house known as Abattage. 
In this story, a young boy named Macon, and a young girl named Carter travel together across the US to make it to Washington, one of the last free states.
