Years after the original tale of Rapunzel took place, the kingdom--left to the grief-stricken Queen after her husband's death--is falling apart. People live in constant fear of the many terrible towers across the land, built by her Majesty's decree to imprison any who dare question her. Bird's nothing but a girl from the north, but when someone she cares about is taken by the mad Queen's soldiers, she'll stop at nothing to save them. With nothing but her friends, a sled, and a mind full of songs, she sets out to get rid of the towers, once and for all.

This is a retelling of the Brothers Grimm fairy tale Rapunzel. I wrote this story in 1995, right after college, and I'll admit it's kind of silly. Just like in Disney's excellent film "Tangled," I took the name Gothel directly from the original tale because it sounded too chilling not to use. This is a very old tale of The Brother's Grimm, almost 200 years old, or possibly more. This tale is about a young girl who was born with very, very long hair, who was kidnapped at birth by a wicked, old hag. There are many versions of this tale, such as the King stealing lettuce from the hag's garden, and as a punishment the hag took his newborn daughter. Some involve the hag stealing the baby because of it's beauty and youth. Though many versions of this tale has been told over the years, the plot remains the same. It was about a young girl with long hair who was kidnapped at a young age by an old hag, and then confined in a tower with only one window. This version of the tale involves the hag's past. This is the tale of love, loss, and grief. And of course, a little bit of magic.Concluída
