Ever since Claire was a little girl, she dreamed about travelling the world with her father.
Just after graduating high school, she planned to do exactly that. But when her father unexpectedly comes home with a new wife and stepchildren, Claire's dreams are put on hold.
And that's not the worst part.
When Claire's father dies suddenly, and her new stepfamily drags her along on a move to northern Europe, not only are Claire's dreams lost forever, but everything she's ever known is ripped away from her too.
She's completely alone in a foreign country, in a town where her "stepfamily" now treat her as a servant. Claire's life will never return to normal, but who knows--a bit of magic can take you a long way.

This is the 2016 draft! For the 2026 fully rewritten version featuring more magic, more whimsy, and folklore/barbie movie vibes, check out Glass Midnight on my profile! Similar characters, different plot, same heart. Clara's problems can be summed up in two words: responsibility and family. After the loss of her mother, life for Clara was never the same. Although she loves her three siblings and tries to be the best sister and lady she can, the weight on her shoulders grows the more she learns and the more she has to know. When her father remarries to a secretive widow, Clara's responsibilities triple overnight. Through no fault of her own, Clara is thrown into an adventure she never counted on-- one of magic, tragedy, and romance. Through palace ballrooms, enchanted forests, and encounters with a handsome stranger she really shouldn't care for, Clara soon realizes that the only way to help her family and fix the problem is to do it herself. The Story Behind the Slipper
We all know the classic story of a girl who lost her glass slipper running away from her dreams, and racing back to her sad reality of being a peasant maid for her own step-mother and step-sisters, the only family she has left. Yes, this is a story based on none other than the character of Cinderella. However...this rendition of telling the tale is quite different. This quick-read is all written in the form of haikus; a form of poetry that is written in a 5/7/5 syllable count. In this story, you learn about the lives these characters really lived behind the scenes of the happily ever after that we all know to be. You'll discover rich amounts of character development from minor characters and learn major mic-drops about the major characters. I hope you enjoy reading and visualizing the lives of various characters and what they may have been thinking throughout this story! In this retelling of a classic tale, Mariette struggles through life with a stepmother that hates her. When she is whisked away at the prince's ball, she begins to believe that her life is going to change-that is until the prince discovers that her slipper is a perfect fit for her stepsister. Fighting the urge to confess her secret, Mariette and her family move into the prince's castle, where old friends-and fiancés-are reunited. Note on Setting: This takes place in a kind of fictional France (hence many of the names, though they speak English). Postscript: "Lady" is a title given to woman married to a man with an estate, much like "Queen" is given to a woman married to a man with a castle. "Mistress" is given to a woman yet to inherit an estate, though of high-class breed (one would not refer to a beggar or maid as 'Mistress'). Monsieur (pronounced Mi-syur, despite the spelling) is a title given to a man that has yet to or has inherited an estate.Complete

Can Lisa breakthrough he's charming exterior, to see the broken man inside. Or will she be pushed to the curb, and left to rot? To top it off she ends up communicating with her dead mother, she never knew. Will she find the happy ending with her glass slippers, or will she find out her shoes never truly fit.
