Rie hates what she is as many other ghouls like herself probably do. She only comes to realise this after years of living shamelessly as a ghoul. Killing, loving her equally monstrous partner, Uta, and even bearing ghoul children. After remembering her teenage years in which she so desperately wished to integrate herself into the human world, she decides she can't function in either world.
