Penelope Rose has never had a home or family to call her own. Foster care will do that to a kid. 
But something about the Pennington family is different. Maybe it's the kindness they show her, the openness of the farm, or even the goofy boy that never leaves. 
Or maybe it's because there's something else at work here.
The cry of a raven and a horrific tragedy give Penelope cause to believe this. Now that she's stuck in this situation, she must ask herself one thing. How far is she willing to go to protect people she doesn't even know?
