It's been five years since Chihiro's departure from the Spirit World and from all of her dear friends. Though she holds on to those memories tightly, she fears going back out of pure risk, so she decides to just move on with her life and get adjusted to her new environment, while still possessing a small amount of hope for a future reunion, which may come very, very soon..
