An impetuous invitation
The shifting of perceptions
The redeeming quality of Grace
Grace is a very simple creature. She loves her family. She loves her family farm. She loves her job at a prestigious consulting company. She loves cooking and her friends and her faith. One thing she has a hard time enjoying is her boss. Demanding, stubborn, and brilliant, he’s good at what he does and doesn’t mind twisting arms to get his way, and he and Grace have been at each other’s throats since she started working for him three years ago. That is, until in a spontaneous fit of misplaced compassion, Grace invites him to her family farm for a Christmas Party. Then everything changes.
Justin Piece is an island. Independent, free, needing no one. His family and friends he keeps at arm’s length, and he likes it that way. The only one with access to his life is his dependable assistant, Grace. She might be a bit unconventional, but she organizes his life just the way he likes it. Then Grace goes and invites him to her provincial family Christmas party. And from then on, something gnaws at him, filing him with unease until it nearly drives him mad. Grace is from a different world. Grace has no place in his well-ordered, autonomous, sophisticated personal life. After all, he doesn’t need anything, does he? But perhaps instead of autonomous, he is hiding from his difficult past. Perhaps instead of independent, he is only trying to protect himself. And instead of worldly, he is just embittered. And to find redemption, all he needs is a little Grace.
"You talk like you ate a thesaurus for breakfast. You should try a normal person word instead of lineage, like family."
"Would that not involve being remotely fond of them?"
Being famous is like someone slowly suffocating you. Even if you chose it, you don't realize until it's already too late and the air is gone. Some people make it out, some crave the attention, while others merely let it suffocate them past the point of no return.
Grace didn't choose to be famous, but Taylor did. The camera flashes are bright, they are blinding, and life is a total nightmare.
It's about to get a whole lot worse.
