Clark smirks widely as he spots me.

I stare at him as well. He makes his way over and leans over top of me.

"Hey hot stuff." He says into my ear.

He lets his lips brush my cheek as he pulls back slowly.

I stay expressionless the whole time. It has taken a lot of practice to not care about him anymore.

FREE STORY WITH PAID BONUS CONTENT FROM HARTLEY's POV! It's a summer of firsts for 15-year-old Gwen, including a life-or-death secret that could change her forever. * * * * * Fifteen-year-old Gwen Lincoln has three goals before sophomore year begins: 1.) experience her first kiss 2.) find a way to get rid of her childish "chipmunk cheeks" for good 3.) escape the separation of her parents ... a dilemma she's keeping from her free-spirited, yet slightly unstable best friend Hartley MacKenna, who she's visiting in New Orleans during summer break. With Hartley taking charge of her ambitious to-do list, Gwen's "Summer of Change" begins, but nothing prepares her for meeting Sullivan Reed, the adorable soccer player next door, who to her utter disbelief, asks her on a date. Now, all she needs is a crash course in Kissing 101 - and her BFF has a surefire-ish plan to show her the ropes! Caught between living her life and trying to run away from it, Gwen's longing to embrace the sun-kissed wetlands of Louisiana and broaden her previously limited horizons is coming true. But when she discovers the secret her friends have been hiding - a secret that could mean the difference between life and death - she must learn to face her own demons (with a little help from the lovable Creole drag queen down the street), or surrender herself to a tragic reality. Jacob's anger, yelling and all the abuse. Saying he's sorry over and over and that it won't happen again, but it's the same thing over and over. He would say anything to make me stay. Always an apology then back to his old tricks. He doesn't know I got a phone call this morning while he was at work. A phone call from someone with a number that I didn't' recognize. I looked up the number online, and it came back to a mental institution. I can't imagine what I was thinking not listening to my gut the first time he hit me. But I packed my stuff from the closet in a bag and left. I have been on the road for hours when my phone starts buzzing next to me. I see his name pop up and just ignore it. I focus on the road ahead and although I have no clue where I am going I just drive. I tried to do everything I could to make him happy with me but nothing I ever did was right. Everything would set him off and make him fly off the handle. I couldn't call my parents and let them know what was happening. I chose to leave the moment I graduated high school because I knew what was best. Boy was I wrong!
