She came knocking on his window at three in the morning, dressed in all black and green and tan war paint sloppily painted on. 

"Hey, Levi," she whispered once he opened the window. "Want to discover the secrets of the universe with me?"

Levi and Hanji have been best friends since they were waddling around in full diapers. They know one another like the back of their hand and would risk their lives for each other. They've been the dynamic duo for so long that Levi can't think of a memory that didn't involve her. And yet, even though they know one another so well, it seems Hanji can't stop surprising him during the Summer before freshman year of college. Multiple dates in the course of a week with different boys, quitting her apprentice job at the science department at the university, and then climbing through his window in the middle of the night wanting to drive away to far away lands. Levi wants to get to the bottom of this. And, frankly, he isn't too fond of this new Hanji.  

So, of course he accepts her wishes to explore the universe together.
