"No, not my mother please!" I sobbed fear streaming through my body and the numbing feel of uselessness. Tears streamed down my face. "Just take me, do with me as you please just don't hurt her!" I gasped as I struggled to breathe. My mother's brown skin glistened as the flames casted a glow upon her, as tears cascaded down her face. Our hut was behind her engulfed in amber and orange flames. A place I had called home all eighteen years of my life was a place no longer. It seemed in span of hours everything I still had and treasured was disappearing. In all of the chaos, the worst part was that I could do nothing about it. I stared up into the sky the stars seeming more distant the ever, and I murmured, " Just take me. I don't care what you will do to me just leave her. I'll do anything you want, just please don't hurt her." I knew at that moment my fate was finite.

"First you captivated me... then you held me captive." Evelyn was like most college-aged girls working a part-time job when she met Caleb, who came in to her life when she wanted him least but needed him most. He captivated her. By the end of summer, she had fallen in love with him. It was then that he wanted her to meet his parents. And that's when everything changed. Caleb was not the man Evelyn thought he was. He came from a secluded village that did things much differently from the rest of society. Isolated in one of the most sparsely populated areas of the country, it was as if they live in their own little world. They were a traditional village for the most part, but there were some aspects that they did much differently than any other, especially in the ways of courtship. It didn't take long for Evelyn to realize one thing: once you were brought home to meet the parents, there was no escape.
